Airbrush Makeup

The cosmetics industry has always experimented with different techniques in applying makeup. Through the years they have made different types of makeup that revolutionized the way people use and apply makeup. I got a chance to see one of the most popular techniques used today which is airbrush makeup. It became popular in the 1930s when MGM used the technique to apply makeup to a lot of extras for the film Ben Hur. Since then, this techniques has been used in different ways.

Airbrush makeup is easy to do and fast. After the pigment is chosen, it then used with the airbrush apparatus. It is usually sprayed a few inches from the face. It easily clings onto the skin creating an instant effect. Blemishes are hidden in a matter of seconds. Airbrush makeup makes a makeup artist’s work easier and faster. It will take a few minutes to cover blemishes with an ordinary cake foundation and concealer. But with the airbrush technique, this can be achieved in a matter of seconds and it stays there for a while. No need to retouch often. After the event is one, it is recommended that you remove airbrush makeup with an oil-based makeup remover to prevent skin irritation.

Fake It

Last weekend, I tagged along with my makeup artist friend to a bridal makeup gig. I’m kinda interested with putting on makeup so I decided to watch how she does her thing. She offered her client some fake lashes to have a more dramatic effect. Her client obliged so she applied them. I must say that it did make a lot of difference in the entire look. The eyes looked bigger and more dramatic. If I were to apply them on my eyes, I would totally screw up.

Applying fake lashes are simple but it needs a lot of patience and practice. Since fake lashes are readily available and cheap, anybody has access to them. To apply them, you would need a magnifying mirror, tweezers and glue (not the one used for crafts project, OK). With the tweezers, gently dip the base of the lashes into the glue. Apply the lashes as close as possible to the baseline of your real lashes. Press firmly but gently. You don’t want to end up poking your eye. Do this for about 5 seconds or until the glue sets in. Once the glue dries up, apply a dark liner to hide the gap. Finish the look with a mascara to achieve that full and dramatic look. Now, you’re ready to strut your stuff.

Online Creativity

With the recent turn of events in the office, we all found ourselves detached from the comforts of social networking sites and messengers. Even Google Chat doesn’t work. Boo! Good thing the Internet offers other ways to kill time and ease boredom. Well, not really since the joy that Facebook provides is far better. I resulted to updating my long-forgotten blog.

One way of keeping yourself busy is by writing. It allows you to express your feelings and it enhances your grammar and vocabulary. You get to write about anything under the sun. Blogging has been the latest thing. You can also acquire more knowledge by browsing through different topics. Be updated with the latest news and issues. You can also create your own online portfolio to showcase your hobbies and works whether you’re a stylist, artist or a musician. There are endless possibilities, its up to you to make the choice.

Lazy Days

It doesn’t feel like summer. It has been raining these past few days. The good thing is I could wear jackets or layer clothes. The bad thing, I can’t go jogging. It has been five days since I last exercised. I don’t wanna get sick jogging in the rain so I prefer to exercise indoors. The problem is Laziness. Admit it, its hard to burn some fat when the weather is too good for sleeping and bumming around.

The best thing to do is to have your own initiative. Instead of running outside, I do yoga or crunches inside. Maybe three rounds each of push-ups, crunches and other forms of core training could do the trick. Since I haven’t been working out, I also try to cut down my food intake to compensate for the idle days. Hopefully the weather will be better in the next days so I could go back to my old routine.

Bored?

Let’s face it we encounter boredom in a lot of ways. We experience it in class, at work, at home and just about anywhere. If it is everywhere, then how do we cope with it? I think its all about your attitude towards what you do. There are a lot of activities out there that would surely entertain you. It all depends on choosing the right one.

For me, the easiest way to avoid boredom is to keep yourself busy. You can do a lot of things that are relevant or beneficial to you and others. Another was is to engage in meaningful conversations. These will enhance your communications skills plus you learn something from these conversations. You can also go out and explore the outdoors. It could be a simple walk in the park or off to a nice vacation spot. Try to do something new that is out of your daily routine. Monotony gives birth to boredom. Be creative in thinking of things that will interest you. Nobody knows you better but yourself.

Workplace Stress

Lately I have been feeling blue. Oh well, it must be separation anxiety since all social networking sites like Facebook have been banned. Anyway, I wanna talk about workplace stress. A lot of us can relate to this especially those who work more than the normal hours required. You sleep late and you wake up early. I’m sure you feel weird when you start to get out of bed.

Wikipedia defines Workplace stress as the harmful physical and emotional response that occurs a worker is poorly matched with the job. This involves the demands, capabilities and resources. There are a lot or stress-related disorders that happen to people affected. These problems often result to poor performance which affects the productivity of the person as well as that of the company’s. Several companies have made programs that aim to reduce the stress levels. I used to work for a multi-national company which provided us with different employee programs to keep us entertained. It was somewhat effective. I think. Everything will all boil down to one’s personality and coping skills with everything that is thrown at you. You need to have a balanced frame of mind and a maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Why I Gave Up All Nighters

Well not really. I just try to avoid them as much as I can. But, I still enjoy them every now and then. Back during my high school and college days, all nighters were my thing. My friends and I would love to stay up all night for parties, booze and sometimes, studying. The latter being the most boring of all.

Staying late at night obviously alters your sleeping patterns. If you manage to sleep even for an hour of two, surely when you wake up you feel tired and grumpy. I always make it a point to sleep at least eight hours a day or at least close to that. Aside from the irritable and tired feeling, it does a lot of damage on your skin. You pores look bigger and your skin looks dry and dull. Plus you’ll have panda eyes and they aren’t cute. Only pandas sport it well, never humans. And if you spend the night drinking booze, a terrible hangover would say a big hello the moment you wake up. Be sure that before to sleep, to take a swag or two of water to hydrate you. Remember: It pays to look good. Who knows, you’ll bump into Mr. Right today.

Hair Dilemma

It has been a month, I think, since I last got a haircut. My bangs are longer but I love them that way. Actually, I was more concern with the sides and back. I could already feel my hair brushing against the collar of my shirt. Flashback: Way back in high school, our teachers used to check our haircut. They would make sure that out hair does not touch the collar of out shirt. Today: since then, that has been my way of determining whether my hair was ready for a trim or not.

The summer heat is unbearable so it would be wise to wear my hair short. I think I’ll still wait a week or two before I get a haircut. By that time I would be in dire need. For now, I’ll just have to live with it. But, if I get bored with nothing to do over the weekend, I might just go to my stylist and spend an afternoon of pampering. That would really be nice. Hmmm. Ok I think I’ll do that.

It Paid Off

I’m pretty much sure that anyone who has been reading my blog would know that I have been obsessing about my weight. I always write about my food, healthy stuff and exercising. Last eek, I went to my old teammates training to train with them. While I was unpacking my stuff and about t change into my training clothes, my coach told me that I’m losing weight!

Oh my! I was really happy with what she said. All my efforts paid off and now everyone around me could see the results! Yay! I felt like celebrating and was more eager to lose more weight. As I started jogging, there was a big smile across my face. That night, I jogged a total of 4.4 kms and still had some energy left for push-ups and crunches. Now I feel more confident and happy because of these developments. Can’t wait to shop for new clothes!

Now I Hate The Heat

Way back when I was still in the 4th grade, we had an interesting project for our science class. We made Smoking Matilda’s. To me it looked like a voodoo doll made out of clear, empty shampoo bottles stuffed with cotton balls. Since it was a requirement, I decided to make it look pretty. The purpose of the project was to show the effects of smoking. A cigarette is placed on the mouth of the doll and the body is squeezed to simulate the puffing of smoke We were all surprised with the results. The Nicotine darkened the stuffed cotton inside and it looked nasty. Then on, I had the idea how a smoker’s lungs would look like.

I won’t play all innocent. When I was in college, I tried smoking since a lot of my friends into it. Well, it looked cool but I never really enjoyed it. Good thing I was never addicted to it since I know it would have negatives on my health as well as the health of the people around me. Medical studies have proven that smoking is among the leading causes of diseases like stenosis, lung cancer, heart attacks and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and can also lead to birth defects. I also think it is like burning money. You buy a stick, you burn it. Simple.

Eyelash Extensions

While browsing just of boredom, I noticed an article that talked about eyelash extensions. I have always wanted to get one but I first wanted to met somebody who had it done before. My colleague overheard us talking about it and admitted that she had it before. She said that it looked really good and it was very affordable!

Eyelash extensions have been worn by famous celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Lindsay Lohan and Gwen Stefanie to name a few. Extensions are great for every day use and for special occasions. They are made from synthetic fibers that are curved to replicate the natural eyelash. They are semi-permanent but would require touch-ups every now and then. If you take good care of them, they could last a year or more. Also, there is no need for mascara. Extensions are safe in the shower, while swimming and exercising.

False Eyelashes

During a performance, I saw my team mate busy doing her makeup. I was intrigued since she was trying to glue something to her eyes and it looked quite hard. When she was done, I saw that they were false eyelashes. They really did make a huge difference. It made her eyes look bigger, fuller and more inviting because of the length it added.

The first thing to do before putting a fake lash on is by trimming it lash by lash if it is wider than your eye. Squeeze the eyelash glue onto the back of your hand and run the eyelash along it. Make the glue a little less runny by blowing from edge to edge. Use tweezers and bring it as close as possible to to your natural lash line. Press from end to end and hold until the glue dries. Apply mascara while pressing your finger behind the fake lashes to bond the false lashes with yours. Lastly, fill any gaps between the false lashes and your natural lash line with an eyeliner. Voila, you now have those tantalizing eyes!

Makeup Primer

Me and my makeup artist friend went out for a day at the mall. Just like me, she loves to buy magazines to look out for the latest trends. Of course, in her lien of work she needs to be fashionable and in the know. So there we were, enjoying a cup of iced coffee and browsing through the glossy pages of the magazine. She kept on checking the makeup styles while I paid attention to the clothes. Then she started talking about a makeup primer. I was like, what is a makeup primer?

A makeup primer is the best way to make your makeup last. It prepares the skin for make-up application by smoothing it out and taking away excess oil. It is applied after the moisturizer and before the foundation. The primer pampers and nourishes the skin and is great for all skin types. It keeps the skin hydrates and moisturized and allows it to breathe normally since it does not clog pores. It also disguises skin flaws, reduces redness and irritation and fill fine lines and wrinkles.

Airbrush Tanning

Before, I was not a fan of baking myself under the heat of the sun and making my skin look darker. I already have a dark complexion but as time passed, my color started to become better. Now, a trip to the beach would not be perfect without getting a perfect tan. But before one culd achieve the tan you want, you would have to endure the heat of the sun and apply a lot of tanning lotion to speed up the process.

With the introduction of Airbrush tanning, people now have easy access to getting that desired color. Hollywood celebrities like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are fans of this new procedure. You simply stand and the machine airbrushes you with the desired color. I remember a scene in Pink’s Music video where she got airbrushed and came out looking like a carrot. Hahah! You’ll just have to make the right choice or else you’ll end up like a joke. Plus its quite heavy on the pocket so better make it right. It lasts from 3 days to weeks, I think depending on the formula used. Anyway, go try it out!

On Competing

Bright lights. Crowd cheering. Tight outfit. School spirit. Pride. And countless other things to take into consideration before we start dancing. Back in college, I competed with my team at an annual cheering competition which draws a crowd of more than 20 thousand people. You could see the different school colors on the bleachers, people cheering for their teams and drums beating in the background. It a big event and the winner, of course, earns the bragging rights plus monetary prize and a trophy.

Cheerleading has played a big part in my exercise routine. I get a total body work out plus I get to be with people I love to hang out with. Competitions have brought the best and worst in people. It binds teams to bag the top spot and be the best in their craft or sport. It takes a lot of determination, discipline and skill to get to the top. As an athlete, I know the sacrifices that each member does just to show a great routine that would please the judges and the supporters. Those were the days wherein I was in the perfect form. God, I miss those days.

Lazy Swimming

Much to our dismay, the pool was crowded. We thought that most of the people might have gone out of town but we were wrong. They were kids playing, jumping into the water. Adults were busy chattering and clowning around. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to find a spot and hope that we could do some laps for exercise.

I tried to do freestyle swimming but i’m not really good at it. I just float on my back and propel myself with my legs ad arms. After making a full lap, I noticed that my muscles hurt a bit. Since I took a break from jogging, I might as well make the most out of this. So I did more laps and enjoyed the cold water. The next day, I felt my leg muscles slightly sore but bearable. I still even had the energy and drive to go check out the mall and went around for hours.

On Tanning

Since we were expecting a very long holiday from work, most of my friends decided to go out of town. It was either hitting the beach or the mountains. Since I could not decide, I opted to stay behind and enjoy the car-free roads. Good thing another friend invited me to go swimming at her condo’s pool. My plan is only to enjoy the summer sun to tan myself.

When we got to the pool, I put sunblock on my body including my face. Getting a sunburn is the last thing I want. I then used my Hawaiian Tropic tanning spray to speed up the process. I love the smell of Hawaiian Tropic products. They make me feel like I’m really on the beach enjoying the sand, sand and surf. As I lay there beside the pool, I tried to withstand the searing heat and applying more of the tanning blend. When the sun was already gone, I checked myself if it indeed work. I think it did work somehow but I think I would still need a day or two to achieve a golden tan.

Summer Hair

Waking up all sweaty and hot is not my cup of tea. Since its summer, it happens all the time. Argh. No choice though. How I wish summer was cooler but still with the bright sun. Since I am trying to grow my hair, I try to manage it well with the use of my anti-frizz formula. I ditched the wax since I feel that it adds to the heat.

Since the heat is already going crazy, I was already thinking of getting a haircut. A friend of mine already chopped his hair off because of the heat and admits that it feels better. Fashion or comfort? Those are two big considerations. I have always worn my hair short but with a fringe to hide my ever obvious forehead. I guess i’ll keep the longer hair for a while since its easier to manage (wash and wear). Which reminds me, why is it so hot here inside the office? Argh. I hope they fix the air-conditioning.

Ballet For All

Any type of exercise would most likely be good for all. It depends on the commitment and your attitude towards things. Ballet is usually viewed as for girls only but I beg to disagree. Guys just think that if they try it out, they might be labeled as gays as if its a bad thing. Just like any other exercise, ballet requires one’s focus and heart to learn the craft.

Different people try ballet out since it enhances their focus. The Diablo Ballet in Contra Costa, CA was started by engineers who had the vision of involving engineers with the arts. The founder believed that ballet is very much like engineering since behind every move, there are structural dynamics. Ballet works muscle groups from head to toe which strengthens and increases flexibility. One could expect stronger legs since most of the exercises involve leg work. It is also a good mental exercise since it requires a great deal of focus when doing the moves. Dancing ballet allows you to relax your thoughts and focus on your techniques rather than other things.

Oral Care

We always wants to look and feel good especially when we are dealing with other people. First impressions usually count so better be prepared. Oral care is a must most especially if you have braces since you need more time and effort to clean your teeth. You need to be more meticulous than normal people.

Food with sugar and starch fuel dental problems since bacteria in your mouth rapidly multiply when you consume them. Also, stay away from sticky, chewy, gooey and hard food like nuts, bubble gum, chips, nougats and the like. It all starts with the proper diet. Always brush thoroughly after each meal and snack for 2-3 minutes. Clean in between teeth and around each bracket daily. Floss at least once a day using specialized flosses for braces. Your toothpaste should have fluoride and gargle with fluoride mouth rinse to strengthen the enamel against decay and repair microscopic cavities by remineralizing them. Visit your dentist at least once a month for your adjustments and cleanings.
